Education lover Shri Ramji Mishra (Assistant Station Master) of Narhan Railway Station along with the dignitaries of the area and Babu Janardan Prasad Singh contacted Shriman Diwan Bahadur Kameshwar Narayan Singh of Narhan State and requested him to light the flame of education in the area. Shriman Babu paved the way for the establishment of the college by donating 15 bigha 4 katta 16 dhoor land to the college. Initially the college was named "Rani Rajineeti Kunwar Mahavidyalaya" after the name of Shriman Babu's wife. Before the development work of the college could be done satisfactorily and properly, Shriman Diwan Bahadur Kameshwar Narayan passed away untimely. As a result, the college administrative committee approved changing the name of the college to Diwan Bahadur Kameshwar Narayan Mahavidyalaya.

The first session of the college started in June 1970 and under the leadership of Babu Rajvanshi Prasad Singh and Shri Narmadeshvar Mishra, the founder secretary and principal respectively, the then Bihar University, Muzaffarpur was satisfied and recognized the college by providing affiliation up to intermediate level in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Due to the hard work of dedicated scholarly teachers, 95.3 percent of the students passed in the first session itself. Later, many principals came like Dr. Jaidev Jha, Prof. Ramchandra Prasad Singh, Dr. Mahesh Mishra, Dr. Madan Mohan Pandey, Dr. Bhairav ​​Mohan Prasad Singh, Dr. Suresh Chandra Sharma, Dr. Satish Chandra Pathak, Dr. Mahendra Mishra, Prof. Yadunanandan Prasad, and Dr. Meghan Prasad etc. On 1.05.1981, this college became a constituent unit of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga. It has been receiving grants by getting affiliation from UGC since 1983.
